With solid policy experience on both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, Sean has been at the helm of some of the most contentious political battles in recent history. Prior to joining Podesta Group, Sean served five years as the leading Republican staffer for the House Judiciary Committee in the role of staff director and most recently, as chief of staff, providing extensive counsel to the committee’s chairman and Republican members. He has been a leader in the debates over patent reform, online piracy, copyright law, homeland security, and crime and terrorism, steering passage of the America Invents Act, the Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property Act, the Regulatory Accountability Act, the Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and the USA Patriot Act, among many other high-profile, complex bills. He has amassed a distinguished record of legislative achievement.
As a deputy assistant attorney general with the US Department of Justice under President George W. Bush, Sean helped craft the department’s legislative strategy and served as the Office of Legislative Affairs’ primary liaison with Congress. Sean has established himself as an expert on a wide array of subjects, ranging from telecom and intellectual property to highly sensitive issues of money laundering and counterterrorism.
Sean holds a Juris Doctor from Western New England College School of Law and has been admitted to the Bar in the state of Massachusetts and New York, where he has served as Assistant District Attorney for Albany and Rensselaer Counties.
