Combining his experience on Capitol Hill and his time lobbying for the mining industry, Hewitt Strange advises Podesta Group clients on energy, environmental and sustainability issues. Knowledgeable about upstream and downstream fossil energy, renewable fuels and mine safety, Hewitt notably has lobbied on the Environmental Protection Agency’s fly ash rulemaking, Clean Water Act-related regulations, hydraulic fracturing, energy taxes, waste-to-energy and Toxic Substances Control Act regulations.Before joining the Podesta Group, Hewitt served as the director of congressional affairs at the National Mining Association, where he was the lead lobbyist on tax, mine safety and clean water issues. Previously, he served as an aide to Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and former Senator John Breaux (D-LA). He has also worked on campaigns in Louisiana and nationally, including for Landrieu, the late Honorable John Murtha (D-PA) and the Kerry-Edwards ticket in 2004.A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, he has a bachelor's from Louisiana State University. An avid skier, Hewitt is also a world traveler. He spent a year working in Scotland and has visited countries like Romania and Morocco on some of his many trips.
