Ed Rothschild is what we call a Podesta Group “triple threat.” He’s a nationally recognized energy expert, a seasoned veteran at strategic communications and an old hand at grassroots organizing and coalition building.

Chairing the Podesta Group’s energy and environment practice, Ed crafts and executes government relations and public relations strategy for many of the firm’s clients, including companies, trade associations and advocacy groups. With his deep Rolodex of media contacts and communications savvy, Ed provides messaging guidance and media training, and opens doors to media outlets for clients.

Ed spent 25 years as a nationally recognized advocate on energy issues before coming to the Podesta Group. He served as executive director of the American Public Gas Association, energy policy director and public affairs director of Citizen Action, executive director of Energy Action, vice president of a start-up solar energy company and legislative assistant on energy issues for a US senator.

Ed’s dynamic experience in both Congress and the public interest community is indispensable for a wide range of clients as they seek to raise their profiles, build alliances and make an impact on public opinion and public policy inside the Beltway. Among his many accomplishments, Ed helped to pass a congressional resolution honoring the US Airmen who were lost in the Bermuda Triangle, generating news coverage, comforting their loved ones and calling attention to the mystery.

A true character, Ed wears many hats at the firm; his colorful nature is perhaps most evident in the pool, whether that be his morning laps or running the firm-wide March Madness pool each spring.

Born in Switzerland, Ed grew up in Rhode Island, graduated from Boston University and can speak German.
