With her wealth of experience in government affairs and deep insight into the minds of policymakers in Congress and the executive branch, Claudia James leads the Podesta Group’s technology, telecommunications, media and intellectual property practice. She also advises firm clients as part of the Podesta Group’s senior leadership team.In that space, among others, Claudia provides clients with strategic guidance and policy analysis on legislative and regulatory issues, as well as coalition management services. She has extensive working relationships with the Judiciary and commerce committees in both the US Senate and House and has played a leading role in passing two Freedom of Information Act reform bills.Before joining the Podesta Group, Claudia was vice president for government relations and associate general counsel at the American Newspaper Publishers Association. There, she developed the association’s regulatory and legislative agenda and focused on communications, First Amendment and tax issues. Her earlier work included serving as a legislative assistant to former Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) during his service in the House, senior legislative assistant to former Rep. Peter Peyser (D-NY) and an Education Policy Fellow at the US Department of Education.Claudia has a bachelor's from Georgetown University and a Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law School.
