Challenge: When one of the country’s most renowned medical facilities for children and their families launched a public-private campaign to secure funding to complete a series of critical capital projects, it turned to the Podesta Group.
Strategy: Enlist new champions by engaging key policymakers and their staff. Educate decision makers about the great care being provided at this particular facility by highlighting the importance of research funding efforts for specific diseases, securing hospital tours, setting up meetings with notable third party validators and enlisting the media for added visibility.
Result: To date, the Podesta Group has secured more than $44 million for capital projects for the client, including funding for a decontamination and quarantine unit. When an emergency spending bill that supported the facility was threatened, the Podesta Group penned and placed an op-ed in The Washington Post titled “We Can’t Stint on Saving Lives”. The piece highlighted the importance of considering the unique medical needs of children when it comes to emergency preparedness.
