Translating Local Needs into Federal Funds
Local projects don’t always get
the attention they deserve, particularly when it comes to
federal funding. Knowing this, we helped one county prioritize
its funding requests by assessing which ones had the most
compelling need and the best chance for success. We then utilized
our public relations expertise to frame the county’s
“asks” with compelling messages and message materials,
facilitated meetings with key policymakers on Capitol Hill,
secured third-party letters of support, tracked the requests,
and advocated on the county’s behalf at key points in
the process.
The financial returns we have delivered
for this client speak to the effectiveness of this approach.
The following projects were among our successes: $23 million
in highway funds through TEA-LU for a road project; $500,000
for transitional housing through the Department of Housing
and Urban Development’s EDI program; $100,000 for an
after school program to keep at-risk kids out of trouble through
the US Department of Justice; $250,000 for a state road in
transportation appropriations for planning, design and construction;
and $400,000 for signal mast arms to replace current traffic
lights that could not withstand hurricane winds.
