Robert Taylor brings 24 years of experience in the Department of Defense and on Capitol Hill to his work with the Podesta Group. Working closely with the firm’s expert defense team, Bob provides insight and guidance on implementing congressional and executive branch engagement plans with the firm’s defense and national security clients, and acts as a liaison between the firm’s clients and Congress. Prior to taking this position, Bob served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Senate Affairs. In this capacity, he acted as the Department’s senior and primary representative to the US Senate and was responsible for managing the Department’s engagement strategies with the Senate's leadership, the Armed Services Committee and Senate membership as a whole. In an earlier seven-year stint at the Pentagon, he served as a policy advisor in the Office of International Security Affairs.
Bob has also worked as Legislative Director in the Office of Senator John Thune (R-SD) and as General Counsel to former Senate Republican Whip, Don Nickles (R-OK). Bob’s experience also includes positions as Counsel to the Senate Budget Committee, on the Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs, and in the office of Senator Connie Mack (R-FL). Beyond the Pentagon and Capitol Hill, Bob also served as an officer in the US Army and as a litigation attorney in a DC law firm.
